Pennsylvania lawmakers must act swiftly to address the epidemic of overdose deaths from prescription painkillers, Gov. Tom Wolf said Wednesday during a rare joint session of the General Assembly.
“Every day, we lose 10 Pennsylvanians to the disease of addiction,” Wolf said. “This is a public health crisis the likes of which we have not before seen.”
Overdose deaths statewide topped 3,500 last year, or 1,000 more than in 2014, he said.
